Introduction

Department of Surveying Engineering started its activity as of 2011 by admitting students in Associate degree level. Recruiting professors and providing the necessary facilities, this department extended its activity and managed to admit students at non-continuous Bachelor’s degree level in the field of Surveying Technology Engineering. This field was then transferred to the faculty of engineering due to its engineering nature.
Study of the number of graduates of this field among those admitted in the acceptance examinations of higher education levels and occupation of suitable positions has resulted in recognition of Surveying Engineering department as a prominent department throughout the engineering society of Yazd Province, playing a significant role in educating expert surveying staff required by the nation.

Majors

Surveying

Associate / Non-continuous Bachelor’s Degree

As a science of preparing maps and local information, surveying plays a significant role in preparing infrastructural information for sustainable development of societies. Map-based decision forms the basis and foundation of all decision makings. Without any local information or precise and updated maps, planning for all civil, political, social and cultural issues requires too much time and cost. From preparation of maps of cities, roads, streets, large civil structures (bridges, tunnels, skyscrapers, towers, and dams) to preparation of a precise image of internal organs of human body all are covered by this modern science.
Surveying comprises 5 majors and the courses of these majors are somehow referred to in the Associate degree. Currently, in addition to classic surveying that includes preparation of map from land area through direct ground methods, surveying sciences include GIS and Geodesy specialties. Achieving GIS specialty, the students acquire a great capability in various fields such as preparation of urban cadastral maps, ground information system, location information structure, navigation systems and basic position systems.
Considering the concept of geodesy that refers to the science of recognition and study of the form and temporal changes of earth and its gravity center by various tools such as satellites and gravimeters, surveying students achieve an acceptable specialty in this field. Today, satellites are known in satellite geodesy as a powerful tool and various usages are allocated to them.
The ability to cooperate in surveying operations such as construction, installation of signs and marks, documenting surveying teams, specifying the required surveying equipment, executing the operations of cartography and hand drawing, performing the preliminary services of hydrography, geodesy, cadaster and photogrammetry, supervision of surveying sites, use of computer software sets in surveying are among the capabilities that the students of this field acquire.
After graduation, surveying students can get engaged in various jobs. Route surveying (roads, waterways, water channels, gas, oil and water pipelines, power transmission routes and the ones), cartography and design (ordinary, scraping and automation methods), leveling and simple surveying, surveying technician of limited zones, technician of photogrammetry systems (analogue, digital, etc.) and the related electronic devices, hydrography services technician, bathymetry, oceanography and the related electronic devices, geodesy services technician (classic, physical, satellite, etc.) are among the jobs in which the students can get engaged.
